A total of 447 field trials were conducted during this period, the majority on maize, soybean and cotton. Permits issued for contained use include GM research on the major GM crops (cotton, maize, soybean), as well as crops such as sugarcane, grapevine and potato. Other contained use permits were issued for granulovirus and other pathogens for medical research.
